Three Adhesive Planning Challenges on Commercial Flat Roofs

Three practical controls for adhesive planning: identify the bond line, plan coverage and working time, and keep field bonding distinct from roof detailing.

Commercial flat-roof installation combines several separate decisions. The adhesive portion is easier to control when the crew identifies the bonded layer, estimates material from published coverage, and follows the correct working window. Adhesive selection does not replace roof assembly, drainage, seam, or flashing design.

Challenge 1: Using one adhesive for different bond lines

Use UNO‑FOAM® | QD3000 for insulation and cover boards. Use UNO‑GRIP™ | QD2040 for TPO and EPDM membranes, including fleece-backed systems.

Confirm the specified assembly before staging product.

Challenge 2: Underestimating material or the work window

For QD3000, plan up to 48 squares per 22 L canister and a 5-minute open time; handling strength is reached in 15 minutes.

For QD2040, plan up to 10 squares of bonded area per 22 L canister, with a 2–4 minute dry time and a 1+ hour open time.

Challenge 3: Treating field bonding as seam or flashing work

QD2040 bonds the listed TPO and EPDM membranes; it is not a seam or flashing recommendation.

Follow the membrane or roof-system manufacturer and the project documents for every seam, flashing, penetration, termination, drain, and other detail.

Pre-installation checklist

  • Confirm the bonded layer.
  • Verify the current TDS, SDS, and roof-system documents.
  • Calculate roof area and every bonded layer.
  • Treat published coverage as “up to,” not a guaranteed yield.
  • Stage the specified application equipment.
  • Keep seam and flashing materials separate.

Coverage varies by substrate and application. Confirm the current TDS/SDS, roof-system requirements, and project documents before use.
